ESEL's mission establishes that this is a “center for the creation, development, transmission and dissemination of nursing culture and science, which aims at excellence and innovation”. In this context, the training component is the center of ESEL's activity, which is why its educational project includes courses at the level of 3 study cycles: bachelor's, master’s and doctorate (in collaboration with the University of Lisbon), thus meeting expectations the large number of candidates for pre- and post-graduate training at ESEL and also the needs in human resources in the area of health. The Master of Nursing Management (MNM) contributes to ESEL's mission, constituting itself as a stage of nursing training that articulates the 3 study cycles, offering quality education through the training and development of the teaching staff with high skills of teaching and research, by increasing and participating in scientific research and innovation in nursing management, quality in terms of the human and work environment, in terms of technological resources, educational spaces and infrastructures; internal organization and management and institutional relations. This course guarantees socio-economic and cultural relevance determined by the development of its trainees about the professional and organizational differentiation they will have in the respective health organizations to which they belong. It guides training actions by ethical principles and values with respect for all personal, ideological, scientific or pedagogical differences. With regard to institutional relations that aim at the quality of specialized training, we have good relations with health organizations throughout the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, namely the Lisbon Hospital Centers, Primary Health Care organizations, private and social organizations where students can develop the internship path.

The MNM proposed here takes advantage, in particular, of the experience accumulated in the 12 editions of a master's degree for the purpose, but also of research applied to nursing management and the interconnection with the research area “Organizational Environment in Health: Quality and Care Management”(AOS: QGC) of the Nursing Research & Development Unit, ESEL. Of note is the growing number of articles published in journals indexed by professors and researchers in this area of research. The MNM is part of ESEL's training offer strategy and has a horizon for the PhD program in nursing at the University of Lisbon in partnership with ESEL. with the need to increase scientific research, innovation and development and scientific dissemination; the expansion of partnerships with relevant organizations in the health area; internationalization; with increased scientific production resulting from research.
